thats a good point rap didnt come around until the late 70's early 80's. also the style of rap music in gta3 is more modern in wat they talk about compared to how rap used to be. also had made a anouncement that the characters were alwas going to be different

GTA VC - 80's GTA SA - Inbetween GTA 3 - Present Day
Cluade killed Catalina as Catalina shot claude at the beg of GTA 3. Tommy is only in GTA VC. Rosenbergs in GTA SA and VC. Salvatore is in SA and in 3 but he is older in 3.

Vice City is obviously the first of the 3, you can tell just by comparing the setting, peds and music to the other games.
San Andreas just as obviously takes place before GTA 3 and after Vice City, You can tell this as the main character of GTA 3 accompanies that crazy, bank robbing :censored: to Liberty City (the place in which GTA 3 takes place), and at the beggining of GTA 3 the main character gets shot by his "accomplice" after robbing the bank, who coincidently sounds a lot like Catalina. (Plus, when CJ sees what he won for winning the race "Farewell my Love" he refers to him as a "mute :censored:", and "snake without a tounge". If you remember, the main character from GTA 3 was a mute). BTW for those who have seen "The Introduction" DVD you see Rosenburg trying to call Tommy. Or in the mission you do at the meat factory, while driving there Rosenburg calls you Tommy by accident, obviously the action is brining back memories for Rosenburg.
This shows that GTA 3 is the most recent game of the 3, as Tom said Catalina, Maria or Salvatore couldn't be in San Andreas if they died in this game.
Oh, and in San Andreas when Catalina phones you after the mission "End of the Line", she names her boyfriend/accomplice as Claude, thus naming the GTA 3 guy Claude, not Tommy Vercetti.

Oh and if anyone brings up Liberty City Stories, then I think that's just an addition to the trilogy, if not then it takes place either after San Andreas or before.
